Experiences of last year monitoring shool

Last year was an exciting year for me. I learned many things that was an eye opener for me, especially concerning the enviroment. This year I hope that this years monitor will carry on our foot steps and deliver the massage to the community and make awareness. As for me I think this years project is going to be hard as we are given more and much responsibility. Last year was easier comparing to this year, I never knew that becoming an advanced monitor could be so demanding,  as we are going to dig more in. Further more it is skilling me in terms of looking for work and standing infront of many people and made a speech. Although I can see that its going to be a tough year I am looking forward to doing all the projects and help my community in whatever it takes to win this struggle.

Tasks for April and May

These are the topics that I will be coming with this two months

.

Task for the April and May

1: The health system- Following the research I made on the health system, I am going to make a follow up on it so that I can see the impact it has made and see the outcome of it. Whether it has changed anything or how.

2:Air quality-Since there has been a smelters that has been flaring all the time and is not suppose to be,there has been complains of lung related issues. So I am going to make a research about it.

3:Water quality-There are organizations in the community who grow crops for living ,I'll make a research and interview some of them to see if the crops are growing well and if the water quality is ok.There was a report which the authorities has when they made a study of the safety of water.I will look through it and make an observation of myself.

4:No housing for the workers-Since there has been high demand for the rental houses of the employers of the mine I will go and interview some workers and make a research on why are they not offered housing.

5-Who own BRPM and who benefits it?-Since the Kgosi has all the powers regarding assets of all the mines surrounding us we want to know, who has to benefit from that ,is it the Kgosi or the community?

6:From farming to mourning[mining]-The farming land has been taken away from our grandfathers, so the question in mind is, will they be ever compensated or they should let bygone be bygone?

7:The power to say NO-The Eskom company has came to our community saying they want to build a power station in our village. When they were asked who brought them they sad it was their client of course, the mine.

8:Women  role in a mining and the rural community-Woman are there in our community, the question is are they abused or what? What is happening to them since the mines has came here and what is their contribution towards the mining industries.
